Supreme Court upholds the legality of Companies (Second Amendment) Act, 2002, providing for establishment of National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) and National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) |
Almost all jurisdictions (except judicial review under Articles 226 and 227 of Indian Constitution) of high courts pertaining to Company Law matters, would be transferred to proposed Tribunals. Company cases before Company Law Board and Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction will also be transferred. SC laid down guidelines for constitution of NCLT and NCLAT. |

Government (Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs) bans FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) in manufacturing of cigarettes. |
- This move not to affect existing FDI operations or franchisee opreations in India.
- Earlier, 100% FDI was allowed in this sector on a case to case basis (approval route).
- Entry of foreign cigarette brands through production and marketing tie ups with local players would not be hit.
- Government has kept open the option of FDI in tobacco farming.

SEBI proposes to reduce the time between public issue closure and listing to 12 days from the existing of up to 22 days. This will be applicable to public issues opening on or after May 1, 2010. (Vide Press Release No.PR No.88/2010) |
- Syndicate members to be permitted an additional day for modifying data fields entered by them in electronic bidding system to ensure accuracy.
- Registrar to issue required to validate bids and calculate basis of allotment based on final electronic bid file provided by stock exchanges.
- Lead Managers/their agents to be responsible for accuracy of data entry and for resolving investor grievances.
- ASBA process to undergo suitable modifications to conform to time lines.
